Consumer Product Plating Applications
Metal Plating for Consumer Product Manufacturers
Decorative nickel chrome is used as a final finish on a wide range of consumer product applications such as:
- Boats
- Kitchen appliances
- Bathroom fixtures
- Lighting fixtures
- Hand tools
- Power tools
- Cosmetic cases
- Razor blade handles
- Electric trimmers
- Musical instruments
- And many more!
Nickel chrome plating is applied to a wide range of consumer product applications because the metal coating provides corrosion protection and a lasting finish. Most metal plating form on oxide layer. Copper plating will change color from pink to blue over time and looks like patina on a statue. Nickel plating will turn color from white to yellow over time and appear to tarnish. Zinc plating will form on oxide that is white and fluffy. However, chromium will never turn a different color. A thin layer of chromium, which is applied over the white nickel, is translucent and hard. This provides a finish that is scratch resistant and a color that will be the same the day it is manufactured until over 50-years later! That’s why nickel-chrome is the finish of choice for many consumer product applications.
At Arlington Plating Company, we can provide metal finishing services including polishing, buffing, copper plating, copper buffing, and nickel chrome plating. Metal polishing is used as a first step to improve the surface finish which requires cosmetic plating and can be sequenced from 100-grit up to 1000-grit (fine). Buffing then can be used to further improve the surface finish removing sanding lines, parting lines, and surface defects. If necessary, bright acid copper plating can be used to improve the overall quality of the base materials (die castings). This layer of copper can then be buffed. The final layer of metal plating can include several layers of nickel and chromium for that lasting finish.
